Minutes from Dadeland, under the oaks

Killian Oaks Academy sits on SW 97th Avenue in the Killian area of east Kendall, minutes from Dadeland, Pinecrest, Palmetto Bay, South Miami, and the Falls. Families have been driving the same oak-lined block to school since 1968.

The campus is a few blocks from Killian Parkway, with easy access from the Palmetto Expressway, US-1, and the Don Shula Expressway. Families come from Kendall, Pinecrest, Palmetto Bay, South Miami, Coral Gables, Cutler Bay, and the neighborhoods along Sunset Drive and Kendall Drive. One campus serves Pre-Kindergarten 3 through 12th grade, so a family with children of different ages makes one drop-off.

What makes Killian Oaks different

Taught to mastery

Instruction is personalized and taught to an 85 to 90% mastery standard with re-teaching built in. Few schools in south Miami-Dade publish a standard at all.

Structured reading

Reading is taught through an Orton-Gillingham based, multi-sensory, structured literacy program.

Support and challenge together

Remedial, accelerated, and honors courses sit side by side, so a student can be supported in one subject and pushed in another.

Age three to graduation

Most specialized schools in the area begin in 4th or 6th grade, and most large schools don't teach to mastery. Here a child can start at three and graduate.

Accredited five ways

Cognia, AISF, ACS WASC, MSA-CESS, and NIPSA, and led by educators who serve as accreditors of other Florida schools.

Within reach

Florida scholarships, including the scholarship for unique abilities, are accepted, and the school adds its own need-based, merit, Hero, and sibling awards.

Who comes here

Families choose Killian Oaks when a child needs more individual attention than a large school can give.

A child who learns differently, a child who has fallen behind, a child who is bored in a class of thirty, or an international student who needs a school that will know them. Many find us through another family, a pediatrician, or an educational specialist. The admission assessment tells us, and you, whether the fit is right.
