High School

Knowledge, challenge, and purpose

High School is the culmination of the Killian Oaks academic experience, and the personal attention doesn't end at 8th grade.

Killian Oaks offers a comprehensive 24-credit High School Diploma designed to provide a rigorous, balanced academic program while keeping the personalized, student-centered approach that defines the Academy. The curriculum emphasizes academic rigor, competency-based progression, critical thinking, evidence-based communication, and college readiness, with remedial support, acceleration, and honors coursework so that each student is both supported and challenged.

Reading, writing, and mathematics

Reading and literature

Increasingly sophisticated literature and nonfiction: theme, structure, symbolism, perspective, rhetoric, author's craft, and historical context. Students evaluate how meaning is constructed, analyze competing interpretations, and support conclusions with textual evidence.

The four-year Writing Seminar

Analytical, expository, argumentative, and research-based writing, every year. Students develop defensible thesis statements, organize complex ideas, construct sustained arguments, integrate and evaluate evidence, conduct academic research, revise substantially, and produce extended essays and research papers, so they enter college prepared to write at the level undergraduate coursework expects.

Mathematics

Secure conceptual foundations, progression by demonstrated readiness and course requirements, and personalized instruction that addresses prerequisite gaps while challenging students ready to advance.

Learning in community

Science

Inquiry, laboratory experience, analysis, and evidence, so students understand science as both a discipline and a method.

Social studies

Historical understanding, civic awareness, and critical analysis of the people, institutions, political systems, and ideas that have shaped societies.

World languages

Sophisticated communication through listening, speaking, reading, and writing, and a broader understanding of cultures beyond their own.

Physical education and the arts

Physical education and electives such as art and performing arts, with creativity, discipline, and the chance to discover interests that shape future study.

Ready for college, ready for what comes next

By high school, personalized education evolves toward independence.

Students are expected to understand their own strengths, recognize areas that need work, respond constructively to feedback, manage complex assignments, communicate with teachers, and take ownership of their progress. Students receive support through the college admission process as we work with each family to identify the right national or international university.

The High School enrolls both local families and F-1 international students. Killian Oaks is an SEVP-certified school and issues its own Form I-20, and international students pursue the same 24-credit diploma with the English-language and academic support appropriate to their proficiency and goals.
