Admission

Getting to know your child

Choosing the right school is an important decision for a student and for the entire family. We believe the admission process should be thoughtful, personal, and welcoming.

Because our approach is personalized and student-centered, our admission process is designed to look beyond an application alone. We want to understand the student behind the records: how your child learns, where your child feels confident, where additional support might help, and what environment will let your child thrive. Admission is about more than whether a student can succeed at our school. It's about whether our school is the right place for that student to succeed.

The admission process, step by step

Our admission process reflects the same principle that guides our classrooms: begin by knowing the student.

  1. Get to know Killian Oaks

Complete our Request Information form to connect with the Admission Office, ask questions, and tell us a little about your child and what you're seeking in a school.

  2. Visit our campus

Schedule a private tour on a school day to see Killian Oaks firsthand, learn about the academic program, and meet members of our community. Tell us about your child's educational journey, what has worked, what has been challenging, and what you hope the next school will provide. Request a visit.

  3. Submit an application

Complete the Application for Admission online, with a Permission for Release of Records, recent report cards and academic records, available standardized testing, recommendations from an administrator, an English or language arts teacher, and a mathematics teacher, and any additional records that help us understand your child's learning history.

  4. Student visit and academic assessment

Because reading, writing, and mathematics are personalized according to demonstrated mastery, we need to understand where a prospective student is beginning: current strengths, skills already mastered, concepts that need reinforcement, and areas where a student may be ready for greater challenge. Assessment helps us determine where instruction should begin, not where a student's potential should end.

  5. Experience a day at Killian Oaks

In some cases a prospective student is invited to spend part or all of a school day on campus, experiencing the school from the inside while our educators see how the student engages. The student also gets to ask a very important question: can I see myself here?

  6. A thoughtful admission review

The Admission Team reviews the student's information as a whole. No single grade, score, assessment, or recommendation tells the complete story of a child. We consider academic readiness and educational history alongside the broader question of fit, and the partnership between school and family.

  7. Decision and personalized academic planning

For students who are offered admission, everything gathered during the process informs starting points and initial goals in reading, writing, and mathematics before the first day. Admission isn't the end of our process of getting to know a student. It's the beginning.
